THE HERCULES MURAL
& SIGN WRITING
We were honoured to be asked to contribute a mural to welcome visitors to the London Letterheads event in 2018.
Letterheads in an international event where Signwriters and lettering enthusiasts meet, attend workshops and share tips and skills. The event is hosted in a different country every year and as a London based collective it was a great pleasure to be asked to contribute.
We took the inspiration for this project from a number of old ‘ghost signs’ from around London and worked in two faux signwriter characters painting the mural.

POP BRIXTON CONTAINER MURAL
Using the Brixton postcode SW9, we created an abstract piece of artwork using layered shapes and letterforms in classic sign written styles. We worked with the existing container graphics to produce a design that sits comfortably with in it surroundings.

BUTCOMBE BREWERY / BROAD STREET TOWNHOUSE
Alphabetics Anonymous member
Hana Sunny Whaler was approached by Concorde BGW Design to take on all signage elements of this project for Butcombe Brewery, expanding the famous Bath pub The Pig and Fiddle into Broad St. Townhouse, the neighbouring building.
Hana brought in the whole Alphabetics Anonymous team to tackle a number of aspects of the signage, inside and out. The main element of the project was the design and application of a 9m tall advertisement-style mural on the gable end of the Grade II listed building. Using traditional lettering styles and layout typical of vintage wall advertisements and inspired by beer branding and packaging, the team used a muted colour palette and an aged paint effect to ensure the mural sat comfortably and naturally in the historic in Bath city centre.
This was followed up by a signwritten fascia for the Broad St. Townhouse shopfront, and the application of a pair of 23ct gold gilded signwritten windows and transom door number, as well as 4 storeys of wayfinding signage for the hotel rooms and ground floor cafe and cocktail bar.
