THE HERCULES MURAL
& SIGN WRITING
We were honoured to be asked to contribute a mural to welcome visitors to the London Letterheads event in 2018.
Letterheads in an international event where Signwriters and lettering enthusiasts meet, attend workshops and share tips and skills. The event is hosted in a different country every year and as a London based collective it was a great pleasure to be asked to contribute.
We took the inspiration for this project from a number of old ‘ghost signs’ from around London and worked in two faux signwriter characters painting the mural.

POP BRIXTON CONTAINER MURAL
Using the Brixton postcode SW9, we created an abstract piece of artwork using layered shapes and letterforms in classic sign written styles. We worked with the existing container graphics to produce a design that sits comfortably with in it surroundings.

STUDIO ELM MURAL
In April 2018 Alphabetics Anonymous members Chris Mackenzie-Gray, Jake Tyler, and
Hana Sunny Whaler travelled to Berlin, going ‘on tour’ to attend a workshop with signwriter David Kynaston. The trip included a visit to a local signwriter Juliane Kowanaski (aka Studio Elm) for a group paint jam at her studio premises in Neukölln. Juliane, who rotates a wall in the studio regularly with murals by different painters, kindly offered up the opportunity to Alphabetics Anonymous to paint a piece there before flying home the following day.
The mural was designed collaboratively and executed in a single day, inspired by the international family of signwriters and championing the sharing spirit and community Alphabetics Anonymous are proud to be part of.
